Concept of Air Conditioning and Importance of Air Conditioners

Air conditioning is not a luxury but a necessity today. Almost every home is now having an AC as it is the best cooling appliance. In addition to being a cooling appliance, it offers many benefits for the user. Since it has got filters that remove the pollutants from the air, its use is justified in places with high levels of pollution.

While ACs have been here for quite some time now, people are not familiar with the concept behind the functioning of air conditioners. An AC has three components: an evaporator, a condenser and a compressor. The evaporator has cooling coils to remove heat and humidity from the air using refrigerant. The compressor is a pump that moves the refrigerant between the evaporator and condenser to chill the indoor air. Heat is released into the outside air by the condenser.

There are several types ACs available in the Indian market. They include Split ACs, Window ACs, Portable ACs and Cassette ACs. The way they are installed differs and their cooling capacity may depend on their tonnage.

A split AC is comprised of two units: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The indoor unit consists of a blower and cooling coils. The outdoor unit has a condenser which helps to keep the air indoors cool.

Window AC, at the same time, is mounted on the window in such a way that half of the unit is inside and the other half is outside. A window air conditioner has a price which is lower compared to a Split AC.

Air conditioners today have filters that can remove pollutants from the air. These pollutants may include allergens, mold spores and other microbes.

A HEPA filter has spun fiber-glass that traps contaminants that may trigger allergies and compromise the health of occupants. It ensures the air that an occupant breathes is fresh. HD filter, at the same time, removes the smallest dust particles.

There are inverter ACs and non-inverter ACs. In inverter ACs, the temperature is adjusted by changing motor speed without turning the motor on and off. Non-inverter ACs turn off once the desired temperature is reached. As the temperature rises, the compressor restarts. Inverter ACs optimize the energy consumption and non-inverter AC consumes more power. An inverter air conditioner has a price which higher than a non-inverter AC.
